Resolution
It's New Years Eve. I'm sitting on my couch, enjoying the second week of my Christmas vacation. My wife of nearly one year walks down the stairs of the home we bough one year prior.
"Here's something I forgot from Christmas," she says as she hands me an already-open brown box.
Inside, a plush rabbit. We've been trying to have a baby. The doctor says it's not likely we'll be pregnant in the next few months, as she has just gone off of her implant birth control.
At the bottom of the box, a small plastic bag with three pregnancy tests inside. They're open. They're positive.
I had considered jotting down a few ideas for New Years resolutions and trying to keep a running reminder here. I've never had a better reason than now.
So this is that attempt. I have always started projects with an earnestness and commitment to maintenance, but have yet to find enough will to continue a project. This one will have an end date.
For 2019, my goal is to write every step of the way on the journeys I'm on. They are:
1. I intend to become a better husband, emotionally. I began taking Prozac for the first time about a week ago to deal with anxiety and I hope this will open the door to being more productive and helpful.
2. I intend to be more healthy, physically. I'm at 230 pounds or so and I'd like to be about 200. I think the medicine will help with that pursuit.
3. I want to learn to cook more recipes. My goal will be one new recipe per month.
4. I want to make and post more art and music. I'll do that here.
So, that's it. It's pretty straight-forward and, just for the record, this is only kept for my personal record. If you find it helpful to you, you can email me or whatever, but I'm going to make a concerted effort to post primarily for myself, I think it's a good way to self-reflect.
Happy New Year!
